About
A sharper second opinion for every pick.
Whetstone is a free, open-source meta companion for Heroes of the Storm, MTG Arena and Pokémon Champions. It turns public game data, openly licensed data and its own analysis into counters, drafts, deck analysis and team building, and it always shows its working.
The games

Principles
- Every number explains itself. Counters and recommendations show why (the matching mechanics, stats or curated notes), how sure (sample size and effect in percentage points) and where the number came from.
- Honest sample sizes. Pairs with fewer than 15 games are hidden, fewer than 30 are greyed out, and a hero is only called strong or weak against another with at least 50 games and an effect of 1.5 pp or more.
- Theory is labelled as theory. When measured statistics aren't available, rule-based reasoning from the current game text fills in, and every such line is marked "Theory".
- Nothing hard-coded. Rosters, cards and Pokémon come from data, so a new release appears on its own with an "early data" badge.
- Non-commercial. No ads, no trackers, no paywall, no accounts. Sources are credited the way their licenses ask.
How data flows
-
Sources
Game files and builds, official patch notes, open datasets (MIT, CC BY, CC-BY-SA), our own curated notes and our own analysis. No third-party stats aggregator.
-
Daily pipeline
A scheduled GitHub Actions job runs each game separately, validates every file against a schema, and keeps the last good copy of any source that fails.
-
Custody
Open data is published to a public data branch with history and its licence notices. Share-alike data stays in separate, labelled files. Short-lived data such as video details is never committed anywhere.
-
Static build
Astro pre-renders one page per hero, map, card and Pokémon. Interactive tools are small islands that load only where they are used.
-
Your browser
Everything runs here: no server, no account, no cookies. Your pools and pastes stay on your device.
If a source can't be reached, its game keeps working from the last good data and shows a staleness notice with the date it was last refreshed.
Credits, privacy and feedback
Every data source, its license and how it is credited is listed on the credits page. The privacy page lists exactly what is stored in your browser (only preferences you set). Found a wrong counter or a broken page? Open an issue, or read the source code.
Whetstone is an unofficial fan project with no connection to the game publishers or to other community sites; see the footer for the full notices.
